Today, we went to a friend birthday party, a swim party. I brought an extra swim diaper and some wipes just in case. Ryker has not been a huge fan of water this year (as I have explained in previous posts) so although he did some splashing around and stepping in an out of the pools he really didn't get wet. I realized that my child was stinky and decided that I would change him and then stay a few more minutes while the presents were being opened. Ryker didn't even go near the water again. Within 10 minutes we were on our way home since Ryker usually naps about 11 (it seems he is on a different schedule than all my friends kids and I miss out on a lot of mid-day activities) and it was after 1:30. We got home and I took of his swim clothes and debated on whether to put him in the bath or just lay him down. I decided to lay him down and give him a bath after. BIG mistake... the swim diaper leaked everywhere! I went to pick him up and as I pull him out I notice the HUGE wet mess in his crib but not before the diaper leaked ALL over me. YUCK!! We headed straight for the bathroom with Ryker screaming. I put him right in the tub (which he was not happy with). I ripped the swim diaper off and got Ryker all cleaned up. After he was dressed I went to clean up his bed. All the bedding was soaked and went right into the washer.
I hope this post will save someone else from making the same mistake. Change them into a regular diaper even if they are going to only be napping for 20 minutes. It is not worth cleaning up an even bigger mess in their bed.
One of my friends needs to start a blog of things NOT to do as a parent or things that can go wrong so I have a place to turn and get information such as Swim diapers are NOT good for sleeping. Thanks for the post Emily!

That's good to know!!
I loved the tribute to your Dad. IT was so sweet to read. He is a great guy and you are such a great daughter to him.
Ryker is getting so big and just cuter all the time!
Um yeah, I had a babysitter put Andrew in a swim diaper before putting him to bed for the night. It was very pleasant to wake up to a soaking kid, kid bed, blankets, etc....
I don't leave the swim diapers in the same drawer as the regular diapers anymore.
How funny. I just learned this tonight. We were swimming at a friends house and she mentioned that swim diapers are only good for #2. But that the pee just comes right out. Gross, a little bit but makes sense.
