Potty Training is a difficult task. Ryker started a couple days before Christmas. He only had 1 pee accident on the first day and again on the second day. It is May now and he has only had 1 other pee accident. The trick with Ryker is that he wants to stand up to go pee just like daddy. These pictures were taken because Ryker really struggled to go pooh on the potty, he would not sit down. I even went and bought this Lightening McQueen (Cars) toilet seat as motivation to sit down. Ryker does not like to sit still for longer than a couple minutes but it was more like 30 seconds on the toilet. I would sit and read him books, most of which were about going potty. About the middle of January I gave up trying to make him go pooh on the potty because NO matter what I tried, it didn't seem to help. We were at one of my friends and he started to hold his bum and I said do you need to go pooh and he said yes, so we ran into the bathroom and he went. I was so happy and so was he. I made a HUGE deal of it and we called Daddy & Grandma and they made a big deal about it too. Then he wouldn't go again, which was frustrating. We went for another couple weeks before he went pooh again on the potty. Then if I caught him holding his bum he would go but only if he was on the verge of going in his underwear. By February something must have clicked because he started going almost every time. He had a couple accidents in March but that was it. The hardest thing has been when we are outside and he waits too long to tell me that he needs to go so then we are rushing around. It drives me CRAZY that he waits SO long before telling me, even if I ask he will say "No thanks, I don't want to go". Oh well, I am trying really hard not to stress about it and the less I stress, the more he just does it on his own. It is May and he is doing SO well. I think that I can officially say that he is potty trained. I know that he will probably have an accident here and there but he is doing great. Ryker has only had one accident during the night during the whole 6 months. I would put him in pull ups but he would wake up dry, finally Dave said stop putting pull ups on him, you are wasting money. So in February I stopped but I was worried that he would pee in the middle of the night and then I would have to clean his bed in the middle of the night, but that only happened once and I had to clean up throw up at the same time so it was inevitable.
Ryker, you are a VERY smart little boy who can do anything once you set your mind to it. You are so fun, creative, and sweet. I am so happy that you have figured out the potty training thing because I was SO done changing your diapers and cleaning out your underwear. You are growing up to be such a big boy! I know that it helped that I bribed you with going to school, and you love your tumbling class. You will also love going to preschool in the fall. Thank you for choosing me to be your mom! I LOVE YOU little man!!
